Mondesí también deberá pagar una multa de 30 millones de pesos dominicanos por el delito de malversación de fondos
El Tribunal Colegiado de San Cristóbal en República Dominicana condenó a seis años y nueve meses de prisión, y el pago de una multa de 30 millones de pesos dominicanos, en contra del exalcalde y expelotero de las Grandes Ligas, Raúl Mondesí, por malversación fondos durante su gestión al frente de la alcaldía de San Cristóbal, en el período 2010-2016.
La decisión se produjo tras el acuerdo alcanzado entre el Ministerio Público y las defensas.
Mediante este acuerdo Mondesí, un expelotero de Grandes Ligas, completa la pena impuesta por los jueces en su contra.
Junto al exalcalde, quien cumplió seis años de prisión domiciliaria, también fueron condenados el exsecretario general de dicha alcaldía, Bienvenido Araujo Japa; el extesorero, Jesús Antonio Ferreira, y el excontralor, Pedro Cordero.
En los casos de Japa y Ferreira ambos fueron condenados a tres años, a ser cumplidos, un año en arresto domiciliario y dos suspendidos condicionalmente, con las condiciones que imponga el juez de la ejecución de la pena.
Ambos imputados también deberán pagar 20 millones de pesos dominicanos de multa en beneficio del Estado dominicano.
En cuanto a Cordero, condenado por violar su obligación de informar a las autoridades de las ilegalidades del ayuntamiento, tendrá que cumplir tres años suspendidos con las condiciones a ser impuestas por el juez de la ejecución de la pena.
