El aumento en la producción de cocaína a un récord de 1.738 toneladas y los cultivos en un 13 % el año pasado ha tenido un impacto a corto plazo en la actividad
La cocaína está a punto de superar al petróleo y convertirse en el principal producto de exportación de Colombia, según estimaciones de Bloomberg Economics y el economista Felipe Hernández, quien asegura que la producción del estupefaciente sigue aumentando mientras el Gobierno adopta una política cada vez más indulgente respecto a las drogas.
De acuerdo con los datos de Hernández, la cocaína podría pasar a ser el principal producto de exportación del país sudamericano este mismo año, debido a que las exportaciones de petróleo registraron una caída del 30 % en la primera mitad del año, mientras que el comercio de la droga ha aumentado de manera sostenida.
El analista asegura que, aunque el Gobierno del país haya estado destruyendo laboratorios de procesamiento de coca, “eso no ha impedido que la producción crezca“, por lo que calcula que los ingresos por exportación de cocaína aumentaron a 18.200 millones de dólares en 2022, no muy lejos de las cifras de petróleo por 19.100 millones para el mismo período.
Según el economista, el aumento en la producción de cocaína a un récord de 1.738 toneladas y los cultivos en un 13 % el año pasado ha tenido un impacto a corto plazo en la actividad, la demanda interna y las cuentas externas, mientras que no parece tener correlación con el desempeño del peso colombiano. Además, asegura que el nuevo enfoque de la Administración de Gustavo Petro respecto al narcotráfico está facilitando su producción.
El informe ‘Ayuda para la guerra contra las drogas’, elaborado por la organización no gubernamental Harm Reduction International (HRI), concluye que Colombia sigue siendo el país que lidera la producción de cocaína, con niveles récord. A su vez, señala que México padece una crisis humanitaria que se traduce en más de 110.000 personas desaparecidas, la mayoría de estos registros desde que comenzó la guerra contra el narcotráfico en el país en 2006.
