Robert F. Kennedy Jr., candidato a la nominación demócrata para las presidenciales de EE.UU. en 2024, vivió un tenso momento la noche del pasado viernes 15 de septiembre del 2023 durante un evento público en Los Ángeles (California), donde un hombre fuertemente armado se hizo pasar por un agente federal y miembro de su equipo de seguridad.
El sospechoso fue detenido por el personal de la empresa de seguridad Gavin de Becker and Associates y entregado a la Policía, mientras Kennedy pronunciaba un discurso en el Teatro Wilshire Ebell sobre la herencia hispana. Posteriormente, a través de un tuit el político agradeció a la empresa de seguridad y al Departamento de Policía de Los Ángeles por su rápida respuesta a la amenaza.
“[El individuo] llevaba dos pistoleras en los hombros con pistolas cargadas y cargadores con munición de repuesto, tenía una insignia de mariscal de EE.UU. y una identificación federal”, dijo Kennedy, señalando que los agentes de seguridad lo aislaron y detuvieron antes de que sacara un arma.
“Todavía tengo la esperanza de que el presidente Biden me preste la protección del Servicio Secreto“, escribió el político. “Soy el primer candidato presidencial de la historia a quien la Casa Blanca le ha negado una solicitud de protección”, añadió.
La prensa local reporta que el detenido ha sido identificado como Adrian Paul Aispuro, de 44 años.
Por su parte, el equipo de Kennedy comunicó que había un segundo hombre junto al principal sospechoso —y los agentes también lo pusieron bajo custodia— porque portaba una mochila con una pistola en su interior, así como varios cuchillos y municiones.
